New Experiences...

I did happen to see some holy cows today... and a few street goats too. The most off the wall thing to happen to me yet in India occurred earlier today on the street near a large monument called the Gateway to India. This structure near the Taj Mahal Hotel is dedicated to the first English King who visited India ceremoniously at this point... Think Paris' Arch de Triumph. It is a rather touristy area and so there are a large number of Indians trying to separate Westerners from their money. One man, a "doctor" stopped me and said I had soap in my ear. When I stopped he handed me a card and stuck what appeared to be dental tools into my ear and proceeded to relieve me of ear wax. It was a bizarre experience but well worth the $3. He originally wanted approx $20. No way! I am still experiencing some trouble getting a cell phone in India due to some bureaucratic reasons... hopefully tomorrow I will be able to finally circumnavigate the problems.

  1. long way to travel to get your ear wax removed! guess u need some Qtips. I should think there would indeed be quite an economy built around getting at your tourist dollar - same as here just different pitches - and a cheaper more unique experience than cowboy hats for tourists at West Yellowstone. Headed off to Montana tomorrow. Take care.

  3. You'll have to let me know if you experience the "dog poop on shoes" trick. My friends & I got that one in Dehli - they stationed two people - one at each end of a street, crosswalk, tunnel - whatever, the one you pass first throws dog poop on your shoes - the next one magically is right there with cleaning materials to get it off for you - for a fee of course! and naturally you pay becasue who wants to walk around with dog poop. ;-)

  5. I have had the dog trick on my shoes in Dehli - not fun, I through my tennis shoes away after the second time. Good luck. Not heard the ear trick - seems like they have many ways - watch the kids for pick pockets. They are quick.
